I will not name the brands, because this post isn’t meant to be a lashing. Plus, I will still likely support the brands and end up purchasing the products eventually, on my own timeline, if they are still available. And if they’re not, oh well. But, the urgency is now lost, and that loss of urgency equals a (possible) loss of revenue.
This product launch has been heavily promoted for weeks by a well-known beauty industry insider. There were photos and videos leading up to the launch, celebrity sneak peeks/red carpet/event wears, etc. I had a feeling I’d have to spend a lot to even get ONE of the items, but I was awed and intrigued enough to consider doing so.
I missed the launch because well, I have a job and it was smack dab in the middle of the work day. Like most of us, I have a lot to do at work and when I’m being ultra-focused and responsible, a beauty product launch doesn’t register a blip on the scale during the work day. I still however, went to check it out when I had a moment to breathe and…the website was down. A social media check confirmed I wasn’t the only one experiencing this. However, it has now been a couple of days, the site isn’t back up and the last social media update was two days ago. #womp
I gave my attention and some of my time to this brand this week, and unfortunately have walked away with nothing, literally. Maybe I won’t get so caught up in work, class, life, and the holiday weekend that I forget to check back (and purchase) this weekend, but maybe I will.
A brand I love and use very regularly, has done a soft launch/product test/early product sales of a new line at certain industry events around the country this summer. Many of their supporters and social media followers, including myself, were not able to attend the events where the product was available, and have been clamoring for an online sale. Earlier this week we were told that we’d FINALLY have an opportunity to do so via a mid-night launch this week. Now, I did not set my alarm for this as I’m in bed by 10:30pm most nights, but figured if it was meant to be it would be. So early in the morning next day, and by early I mean 4 hours before the start of the work day, I hop online to place my order, except [insert record scratch]…the product listing leaves a LOT to desire. The product image is a photo that says “coming soon”, the ingredients list is replaced with a cutesy description of the product benefits, and here’s the kicker, the cost is DOUBLE that of other similar items they sell, but you get the same amount of product as normal. #yeahno
Please respect me enough as a customer to put in the effort to post a photo and write some marketing copy for a product you want me to shell out double the duckets for. This is a limited edition product, so if there are enough people that aren’t like me, I may never get to try the product, and I’m okay with that. I’m not okay with feeling like I’m being taken advantage of.
